Today we had our debate on whether or not eco fashion is currently a big business. I went into the debate thinking I would definitely be for eco fashion. But Celia was so good at arguing her case she completely threw me and I left recognising the obvious advantages of eco fashion but swaying completely the other way. I'm more interested in the idea of recycling clothes than creating organic clothes.
My favourite 'green' designer that I have found so far has to be Junky Styling who's brand is based on destroy, repair, enhance and reform.
In my research I learnt that to make silk they boil cocoons killing the moth inside, but you can buy peace silk where the moth is allowed to emerge from its cocoon and live its life. I also found out that the UK produces 434 m tonnes of waste a year which is enough to fill the Royal Albert hall every two hours.

London Trip
Yesterday we went on another London trip. The first exhibition we went to see was at Somerset House. I thought we were going to get the brief for our new project so I wasn't completely sure what, if anything I was meant to be looking out for. But this probably worked out well cause it meant I didn't have to put too much thought into it and just enjoy it for what it was.
That was the main thing we did in London, and I also took a picture of the chandelier in the V&A by Dale Chihuly for my black and white project. Even though its finished I included him and thought it would be nice to have a pic of his work I took myself.
When I first went round the exhibition I was surprised I didn't really like it. I didn't understand a lot of the pieces and couldn't appreciate it at all. So I decided to look at it again from end to start and the second time around I found a lot of stuff I liked and had a much better feel for the whole thing.
I really like this one, it reminds of some of the Tokyo fashion I've been researching for our group presentation on a fashion capital.
The exhibition was all very interactive, lots of things to touch and play with which made a nice change from the usual 'don't touch that'. There was only one collection of actual garments.
This one was my fav. It looks quite raw and almost like
you wouldn't want to touch it but in person the material
it was made out of looked very soft and delicate.
Not sure if that makes sense but I like the contrast.

Snail Designs
This is an advert I made during Steve's lesson. I used a lace swatch on the dress and wrote the little bit of writing myself. I don't know why it's snail designs, I just did that on one of the first sessions and ran with it.

Oscar De La Renta
Today was a catch up session and I finished my Powerpoint Presentation. I did it on Oscar De La Renta because I love his work and he wasn't an obvious choice. The only problem I found was attaching a video to it, I couldn't quite manage it so had to just leave the link on the page in the end.

I'm having some serious issues getting it onto Blogger. The google page everyone else did theirs on isn't working right now so will have to remember to try again! If you read this remind me xx

I have tried to upload my PowerPoint for this and the Tokyo one we did and I can't do it. I've tried loads of different ways with all sorts of file types. I spent ages and its not happening so I'm just going to have to individually load each slide which is a shame.

After all that I went back into my google docs to try and upload my CV and saw something entitled Oscar De La Renta. Not sure if the link will work but I shall include it anyway.

Snail Designs
This is a quick logo design I did on illustrator.
When it is on Illustrator it looks fine but when I put it onto my blog, much like the trainers it goes grainy around the edges. I think it might be because it doesn't have a background.

Sewing a bodice
Today we used our pattern we made to create our bodice. I sewed all of my seams at 1.5 cm so had to unpick them all and re sew them at 1 cm which was annoying. I left my bodice with the sleeves pinned to it all ready to sew them on and use my bias strip on the neck line next week.
18th October - The Fashion Show
At the fashion show it was mostly waiting around. I hoped to see a glimpse of the glamourous side but when it was eventually show time it was over so fast I could hardly take it in. Great experience though and I can't wait to do it again. I might have even got a job at Roberta out of it!

Pattern Cutting
Today we were constructing straight onto a tailors dummy, I really enjoyed everything we did. We put designer tape on the seams and used that as a guide once we started forming a bodice with calico. We only did half the front and back because if you were cutting it from a pattern that would be cut on the fold. This is definitely something I want to do a lot more. I preferred it to drawing a pattern straight onto paper. I love it when fabric turns into something that actually resembles something you can wear!

Illustrator
Today I used Illustrator for the first time. I've been looking forward to learning how to use it as I struggle with drawing people for my designs. We were eased into it slowly and spent our first day colouring a scuba diver and in the end he was swimming through a hoop. It was surprisingly hard to create the hoop but I was pleased when I finally managed to do it.

Photoshop
Today we used Photoshop. I have never liked Photoshop and am still completely clueless to what I did, how I got there and no idea how to do it again.

Cecil Beaton
Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary.
